Dating Myself

January 21, 2012- Dating Myself

I went home giddy as a bee! I think I am enjoying my company moooore and mooore. Yep. You got that right. I went on a date… with myself! I had my Masters class from 10 am til 4 pm.. then I decided to go to mass at AdDU college so while I waited, I had a “haircut” at a nearby parlor.. barely noticeable if you ask me.. but that’s always what happens when I get a haircut. Nothing suits me besides this ‘do I have since I was a kid.. long and straight. J other than that, I’d look like a moon, or a siopao (great, in time for Chinese New Year). Harhar.

AdDU college from where I was sitting

Then I went to mass 5-6pm at the university chapel. I felt happy that Father Ning was the presider. I love Fr. Ning and his stories. J

After mass, I went to Gaisano South to find a flattering pair of faded denim jeans.. the one I’ve always wanted but never had the chance to buy.. before 2011 ended, I made a promise to myself that this year, I’d be more generous to myself. That I’d reward myself for all the hard work I do and that every pay day, I’d treat and buy myself something I’ve always deprived myself of buying because I think it costs too much. One secret I am embarrassed about? I’m so stingy when it comes to myself!! I’d walk or commute despite the harsh weather just to save so I can buy my loved one something expensive.. I’d starve or I’d be satisfied with wearing ukay or imitation clothes or things just so I can save for other people. Maybe that’s one of the reasons why I always end up depressed or empty.. cause I’m a slave driver and I do not reward myself. So this year… THINGS ARE GOING TO CHANGE! I have stuck to this promise and I bought myself this expensive pair of jeans. It feels gooooood! J
Yey! I found the perfect faded denim jeans!

From Red Girl

Excuse the clutter! hehe

These are the three pairs I tried.. (all photos taken inside the dressing room of GS)
First Pair.. i don't like the color

Second pair.. it's tooo faded for my liking

Is this it?? Am I in love? heheh!

THE VERDICT??

I bought the third one. But I’m thinking of buying the second one next pay day…. Or not! Hihi. Old habits die hard!

I then proceeded to the cosmetics and beauty level of the mall to buy my hair repair weekly treat. L’Oreal and Creamsilk.. the two costed around 28 pesos. Not bad.

Down to the bookstore to buy my niece two activity books. I always make it a point to bring home something for her.

Then Dunkin Donuts to buy Pasalubong for my sibs. (Little Bunch= Php 100) Pasalubong ng Bayan!

I also bought Cua Pao before I went home.. to commemorate Chinese New Year. haha! I was just hungry, actually.
Cua pao
Kung Hei Fat Choi!
A day well spent! I went home tired buuuut fulfilled! Thank you Lord!

What to buy on the 30th during my next pay day? Uhmm. It’s my boyfriend’s birthday so I might splurge for him! Ain’t love grand? =)

Card giving day

January 20, 2012- Card giving day

I have always liked “Distribution of Cards” day.. why? Because it’s half day.. and I usually spend the remaining half being carefree and relaxed because I barely get ‘customers’.. aka parents who complain or inquire about the grades of their children. But every third quarter, I dislike card day. Why? The grades of the students usually go downhill during the third quarter… the bulk of the failing grades I give are concentrated during the third quarter.. I usually have customers during the third quarter… so during this particular card day, I am not in a relaxed mode at all. I talked to some parents and it breaks my heart to explain why the grades of their children did not reach 75.. seeing the reactions of the students is more painful.. the tears, the anxiety, the disappointment, the regret.. it’s energy-and-happiness draining.. I swear.. it’s like the teachers are the death eaters sucking the life out of children.. I begin to reflect on my role in all of this.. have I gone the extra mile to help these students? Did I do enough? Why did I not inform the parents ahead of time? Did I really consider the context of the learners? …… one can only do so much.

Thanks to Matthew, my student for this sugarcane candy from Australia.

I wanted to ease the heaviness of my heart before I go home so I decided to look for the perfect pair of jeans.. MarJhun accompanied me to NCCC Mall to look for one but there was nothing in particular that I liked so we ended up sharing a truckload of laughs and two pairs of tired legs.. we went to McDo to have dinner then decided against it.. we then proceeded to Barbeque Boss at MTS to have an affordable meal. One bbq stick costs PhP 6 (minimum of 5 sticks) unlimited rice for PhP 15.00 and MarJhun ordered Sizzling Tuna Sisig for Php 115. Yumyum.

Oh btw, the yearbook photos were distributed today. Ugh. I can really say that I have undergone a radical transformation. Sorry for the quality of these photos.. i just took a photo of the photo! hihi!

Napakabungisngis ko nga last year.. but now, my eyes and even my smile looked tired..  my my….. I’ll be kinder to you.. my dear self, I promise! J

Monthsary date at Zab's Buffet

January 18, 2012- Monthsary Date at Zab’s Buffet

Over the years, I lost track of the order of our monthsaries.. cause we usually greet each other with… “happy 18th of the month!! J “

This month, we decided to de-stress the best way we know how..  by eating our hearts out! I suggested we go to Zab’s buffet since I had very fond memories when I celebrated my 24th birthday back in September of last year.. Mr. Big agreed. We met at around 5:50pm, 10 minutes before they normally open.. we were greeted by very polite servers and guard. The place was still being prepared and the aircondition just recently turned on.. so we waited for about 20 minutes more. Not  problem since we arrived early.

The place

Upon entering the restaurant (to the right), there is a mini bar showcasing the desserts.. but more on that later.. in front, you will be greeted by an array of cooking stations with one or two chefs inside either preparing or waiting for your orders. You may stand and watch them do the magic or you may wait in your seat and the servers will deliver it to you. we were very fortunate that we were the second on in there, because service was quick!
The cooking statons

The chef was even the one inviting us to try this or that because he was not doing anything at the moment. But mind you, 30 minutes upon opening, the place was jampacked! Much similar to our experience last year, we had to wait for about 45 minutes to get a good seat because the place is quickly becoming popular among Davaoenos.

Let's gooo to the fooood!

There is of course the shrimp station. There was a fresh stock of raw shrimps on ice all waiting to be cooked either Buttered Garlic or Chili Garlic.

two servings of buttered garlic! yummy!

There was the pasta station. I love pasta! You may ask the chef to cook you favourite Carbonara or Sweet Style Spaghetti.
sweet style spaghetti

carbonara

Surprisingly, I prefer their spaghetti. The sweet sauce left a good aftertaste.. the carbonara was too starchy and buttery for my liking..

There was a Roast beef station. Pure, soft, tasty and tender beef with gravy on the side! This has got to be their best seller!
One order of roast beef

Sorry for the appearance. We couldn't help but devour it immediately! hehe!

There was a crepe station with either bananas or mangoes as filling. We didn’t even get to try it cause we were too full! But I did try it last September. this was my photo back then.

Banana crepe
There was the Mongolian station. You can ask the chef to cook you Mongolian rice. I am not sure what other variety they have. Didn’t check it out.

To the left of the stations, they have the usual food warmers/ buffetwares containing several varieties of rice and viands. I have noticed that they usually serve different kinds of viands. The ones we had back then weren’t the same thing they served now. That is a good thing. However, their main courses or their offerings aren’t something I want to rave about.. for me, it’s too “lutong pambahay” for my liking. That part of the restaurant is my least favourite. They have three types of rice, plain, carrot and oriental (?). they had the different ingredients for a vegetable salad all laid out so one can make his/her own choice. Their viands also did not have any label, so just I knew these viands basing on their appearance and taste. They had mixed vegetables, beef steak with onion rings, sweet and sour fish and fried chicken..

My plate- rice, mixed veggies, beef steak, sweet and sour fish

They also had a bar dedicated for different appetizers/desserts. This is what I call the ‘mixed bar’.

the "mixed" bar

Cause they had Japanese (sashimi and maki with soy sauce and wasabi), they had appetizer (pomelo salad). They had a pomelo salad, pizza, maki (before we had California maki now, they served  a different one, teka? I am not so certain what this kind of maki is.. but I am not a fan!). and they had dessert too…
maki. tera maki? i dunno

their pizza is simple yet delish

sweet and cheesy

In the same bar, they had an ice cream machine which serves vanilla ice cream, they had big bowl of chocolate (syrup) and chocolate chips, marshmallows, sprinkles and different candies!! You can make your own ice cream or play with the mix of toppings to make your chocolate dessert! Yumm! They also had small squares of chocolate brownies and chocolate chip cookies. You may top that with chocolate syrup! What did I tell you about being creative? Hehe!
choco brownies and choco chip chewy cookies

Back to the separate station of chilled desserts located near the entrance. This is part two of dessert because as I said, there is already one you can choose from in the salad/Japanese/pizza station. You can choose from this selection: Coffee jelly, Blueberry cheesecake (my favorite!!), churros with chocolate dip and kreme brulee.. did I go for seconds? Thirds perhaps!! =)

My eternal beloved

Blueberry cheesecake shots!

other desserts.. choco mousse and churros

Churros, blueberry cheesecake and kreme brulee
The main attraction for me in any buffet place.. great desserts!
Look who I bumped into!!

HI Vern! Long time no see!

Ay haggard! tsskk.

Buffet price costs Php 329/ person with 1 glass of iced tea for free.

With its wide variety of menu selections, polite and friendly servers and accommodating chefs.. you’ll get more than your money’s worth! Two thumbs up!

Zab’s Buffet Restaurant is located at Paseo de Roxas where Chippens Buffet used to be.. Til next time!

Productive weekend

January 14, 2012- Productive weekend

I love weekends. I get to recharge, declutter and unwind! This Saturday, I woke up to a cold morning breeze. It was raining nonstop since last night.. so I did the most reasonable thing I could think of…………………….. I went back to sleep and decided to be absent for my Masters’ class! Hohoho! It was worth it! I woke up around 10 am.. and I was bedridden the whole day. Hahaha! Bed weatherrrr! Rainy weather is my favourite. I love the rain. I love the cold. I must be a polar bear.

Another reason why I love weekends is because I always pig out on Sundays. Since we were in high school, we know Sunday as “spaghetti day”.. my mom and my aunt cook spaghetti and pancit every Sunday and we never get tired of eating it! This is what I had for breakfast. hihi. POWER MEAL!! Oh my!
Spaghetti/Pancit/bread with butter/bread with peanut butter (don't judge me please!!! =D )
Lunch time will be equally good because our viand will either be grilled pork chops/ grilled chicken/ bbq or something with sabaw in it.. Like sinigang na baboy/ isda/shrimp or pochero.. which is beef with vegetables and bananas and soup..

our lunch= pochero

I think that even if I shed off some pounds over the week because of stress and physical activity, I make sure I gain them back over the weekend! It’s our little secret, this little missy turns into a piglet on Sundays!! Hihi. Hush hush!

Last  Sunday was a very productive day. I was able to do the following:
-check all 2nd year assignments and quizzes
-make reasons for failure
-make mechanics and guidelines for magis fest (bandaging and ert)
-edit unit 1 and unit 3 of my Unit Plans (Backlog- Unit2)
-Make groupings for Emergency Rescue and Transfer (ERT) lesson

MORE school work I need to get done asap!

In between gobbling food and finishing my work, I was able to “curl” my highly resistant hair and take photos of me wearing the eyeglasses Sir Ama gave me.

ugly! three hours of this!

When my ate and her daughter came home, she instantly saw how fun it was and tried on the curlers herself! My verdict…mas bagay sa kanya!! Hihi. Because after three hours of putting on hair curlers… my hair still looked the same! Hopeless!
see the difference? is there?!
Like tita! ang kulet!
New profile pic

All in all, pigging out= check. Work done= check. Bonding with family= check. New profile pic= check! Don’t you just love having day offs? =)
til next weekend!

Sunday will always be RECHARGE Day!

I finished my First Unit Plan for the Fourth Quarter.. good for 4 days only! Yey! Thank you Lord. In between moments of madness, I thank God for letting me have time to eat breakfast with my siblings, to play with my niece and to enjoy a 30 minute bath which I only get to have every Sunday! J Not every Sunday, though. But, given the luxury of time, I really do pamper myself inside the bathroom! Hihi. My cheap thrill? Having this for my hair!

For only 20.00 PhP, I maintain my silky smooth hair (Charing! ) It’s just something I do in order to satisfy my desire to do something out of the ordinary and to break the routine.. I do believe it has its good effects though.. my hair has always been straight and smooth and bouncy. Weh? J
Plus my Victoria’s Secret Coconut Passion Bath and Shower cream, or any available shower cream/gel which I mix with my soap and lather all over my tired body!

Gah! Glorious bath= pampered self! Oh diba? The simple things in life are not only free, but they’re the best!

I also set up my blog finally… it made me fall behind schedule though. Cause I still have grades to compute and visual aids to make, and a powerpoint to polish and several UNIT PLANS to accomplish… . Oh the life of a teacher!
This is on my “things I need to buy continuously” list (out of topic, I just need to remember this in order to make a tangible note):
  1. Ballpens
  2. Batteries
  3. Tissue
  4. Alcohol
  5. Hand soap
I figured that we can never really have too much of these. My clock’s batteries died today, perhaps that’s one of the reasons why I am going to sleep late again tonight. Woah. Electricity has been cut off.. City wide blackout! Imma sleep now! GOod night!! :)
